Conference Championship Preview: Lions vs. Chiefs

We are down to the Final Four. The pretenders are gone. The “Cinderella” stories (sorry, Chicago) have struck midnight. What we are left with on Championship Sunday is a script so perfect that conspiracy theorists are already claiming the NFL wrote it in July. On one side, we have the “Team of Destiny”: The Detroit Lions. On the other, we have the “Villains”: The Kansas City Chiefs. Lions vs. Chiefs.

If you don’t have a team in the fight, you are picking a side in the culture war. Do you want the gritty underdog, or do you want the dynasty that refuses to die? Here is the unfiltered preview of the two games that will define the 2026 season.

NFC Championship: The “Zombie” 49ers vs. The Motor City

Matchup: San Francisco 49ers @ Detroit Lions Time: 6:30 PM EST (FOX) The Vibe: Rocky IV.

The Detroit Lions (The Hero) Ford Field is going to register on the Richter Scale this Sunday. The Lions haven’t just been “good”; they have been a force of nature. Dan Campbell has built a team that reflects the city: loud, tough, and terrifyingly physical.

  • The Stat: Jahmyr Gibbs is averaging 6.5 yards per carry in the playoffs. He is running angry.
  • The Narrative: This is their moment. They exorcised the demons. They have the #1 Seed. If they lose this, it won’t be a heartbreak; it will be a collapse.

The San Francisco 49ers (The Zombie) I called them “Zombies” last week, and I stand by it. They don’t look dominant but rather hurt. They survived Seattle last week by the skin of their teeth. Brock Purdy is limping. Their defense is held together by tape. But here is the scary part: Zombies don’t die. Every time you think they are done, they find a way to drag you into the mud and beat you with experience. They have been here 5 times in 7 years. They are comfortable in the fire.

Raza’s Pick: The 49ers are running on fumes. The Lions are running on destiny. Score: Lions 31, 49ers 24. Detroit goes to the Super Bowl.

AFC Championship: The “Empire” Strikes Back

Matchup: Kansas City Chiefs @ Baltimore Ravens Time: 3:00 PM EST (CBS) The Vibe: Star Wars (The Rebels vs. The Empire).

The Kansas City Chiefs (The Villain) Let’s be honest: Unless you live in Missouri, you are rooting against them. We are tired of Patrick Mahomes making impossible throws. We are tired of the Taylor Swift camera cuts (love you, Tay, but we want to watch football), and the inevitability of it all. They are the 2000s Patriots, the 90s Bulls. They are the final boss of the video game.

The Baltimore Ravens (The Resistance) Lamar Jackson has played the best football of his life this month. The Ravens have the defense to confuse Mahomes (if that’s even possible) and the run game to keep him on the sideline.

  • The X-Factor: The weather in Baltimore is forecasted to be 20°F with snow. That is running weather. That is Raven weather.

Raza’s Pick: My heart says Baltimore. My brain says you never bet against the villain in January. Mahomes thrives on hate. He loves the silence of an away crowd. Score: Chiefs 27, Ravens 24 (Field Goal at the buzzer). The Empire returns.

The Verdict

If my predictions hold, we are getting Lions vs. Chiefs in Super Bowl LX. The Team of Destiny vs. The Dynasty. Good vs. Evil. Dan Campbell vs. Andy Reid.

It would be the most watched TV event in human history. Let the games begin.
